Ramsau Schneefest

What better way to start your stay in Ramsau than with a warm welcome (albeit outside) at the Ramsau Schneefest from all the local people involved in all things to do with enjoying the facilities of Ramsau, e.g local Tourist Office, ski instrustors, cross country instuctors etc. Together with an outside bar that serves a good warm cup of Gluhwein to keep you cosy whilst you watch all the activities on offer. They also run a prize draw where you can win perhaps a taster course for skiing or cross country, a meal at a hut or some other leisure activity.

The Ramsau Schneefest event takes place every Monday evening throughout the season, and the venue alternates between the Ski Jump in the centre of Ramsau and the Rittisberg which is the main skiing area here. The show/demonstration lasts approx one hour and the local ski bus collects you and returns you to the nearest bus stop to your accommodation free of charge.

Without giving too much away, which would spoil your enjoyment of the Ramsau Schneefest, the show consists of various demonstrations by the local skiers, downhill and cross country, which is particularly popular here, set as it is on a plateau with over 150 km of prepared trails. The whole thing is set to music which in itself can stir the emotions. They regularly have guest appearances from specialist skiers, e.g synchronised skiing, which is quite something to see. When the local children are on holiday they even take part in this extravaganza. Weather permitting you may even have a visit from the local paragliding school who swoop in over your heads.

We have visited quite a few resorts over the years and we have yet to come across anything quite like the Ramsau Schneefest. The locals work tirelessly to promote this lovely resort and their time and efforts are all voluntary. So why not come and see for yourselves.
