Sunday lunch at La Chalande at Ardent was an Autumn delight.

This small charming typically Savoyard dining room is warmed by a cosy log fire. The delightful patronne welcomed us with an amuse bouche of Mousseline de Potiron (to mark Halloween). We had a soup of wild mushrooms followed by the main course, Civet de Lievre served with a medley of Autumn vegetables. Delicious puddings were offered and we plumped for a home-made chocolate confection.

This was a real hark back to French cuisine prepared and lovingly cooked by a master of his art. At approximately £25 per head including a fruity local Mondeuse red, this was a Sunday to remember.

How to get to La Chalande

By Car from Morzine
As you drive into Morzine, you will see signs pointing you towards any of the following: Ardent, Cascade d'Ardent (the waterfall at Ardent) and Montriond. To get to Ardent, you need to firstly follow signs to the centre of Montriond which is on the opposite side of the Valley to Morzine. Heading towards Morzine town hall is a good start as you will pick up the signs to Montriond there. From Montriond follow signs to Ardent and the Lac de Montriond. After 10 or more minutes of driving, you will arrive at the small hamlet of Ardent where you will see the bubble ski lift that ascends into Les Lindarets. La Chalande is found within the small hamlet here.
