Val Thorens, at 2300m, is the highest resort in Europe and the most snow sure resort of the Three Valleys. It is a purpose built resort and what it lacks in charm and tradition it certainly makes up for in snow and skiing conditions. However, when the weather sets in the lack of trees can make visibility very poor! Head down to Les Menuires or St Martin de Belleville for clearer conditions.

In the winter Val Thorens attracts those looking for a snow sure resort with great skiing opportunities and a good après ski atmosphere. For the non-skier there isn't as much to do as some of the close by lower resorts, but you can visit the indoor swimming pool complex with saunas, squash courts, tennis courts and a gymnasium. Val Thorens also boasts Europe's highest toboggan run.

Whilst not an obvious choice for a summer alpine holiday, there is still plenty to do in Val Thorens and nearby Les Menuires and St Martin de Belleville during July and August. You can choose from hiking, parapenting, archery, climbing, canyoning, Via Ferrata and mountain biking. Val Thorens also has a leisure complex with swimming, squash and tennis courts and a gymnasium. Also, the nearby Glacier de Peclet offers summer skiing.

The nightlife in Val Thorens, whilst more limited than its neighbouring resorts, offers 3 night clubs, 10 lively bars and a wide choice of restaurants to suit most people's budget and taste. Val Thorens restaurants vary from traditional bistros to international cuisine to gourmet restaurants for that special occasion.

The closest airports to Val Thoren are Chambéry (110 km), Geneva (149 km) and Lyon (180 km). Buses and trains leave daily from the Geneva airport. Val Thorens can also be easily accessed by train. Eurostar travels from London and Kent to Moutiers, 37 km away (a 40-minute drive). Buses and taxis are available from the station here.
