Meribel Ski Holidays
With the resorts of Courchevel and Val Thorens on either side, Meribel is slap bang in the middle of the famous Trois Vallees, one of the largest and most popular skiing areas in the world. Meribel is a traditional French village and despite recent growth maintains a Savoyarde style and atmosphere.
In the winter Meribel attracts all sorts of people looking for a winter ski holiday destination which offers a variety of on and off-piste opportunities. Meribel is extremely popular with British holiday makers so if you are looking to practise your French head up to the higher, but less attractive, satellite town of Motteret. For the non-skier in Meribel, there is an indoor swimming pool with a sauna and Jacuzzi, an ice-rink, bowling, indoor climbing, snow shoeing, sight-seeing flights, a cinema and lots more.
Once the snow has melted and the crowds have disappeared, the Meribel Valley is stunning. There is a wide range of activities to suit all ages and interests - a great place to get away from it all and unwind. Once in Meribel you can choose from golf, crazy golf, parapenting, white water rafting, hot air ballooning, horse-riding, rock climbing, mountain biking and much, much more. There are also many excellent walks in and around Meribel and selected lifts are open during July and August to access higher altitude trails.
If you fancy exploring further a field Meribel is a great base from which to visit the nearby Glacier in Tignes for some summer skiing (about 1.5 hours drive away), the nearby medieval town of Annecy and the closer town spa of Brides-Les-Bains.
The nightlife in Meribel can be as lively or as relaxed as you want to make it. With lots of bars, restaurants and clubs to choose from there is something for everyone. Meribel also has several restaurants which can get very busy so it is advisable to book. Most restaurants offer the same dishes so there isn't fantastic variety here but if you hunt around there are some places offering something a little bit different. A 25 minute Gondola ride from Meribel takes you to Brides-Les-Bains so if you are feeling lucky head down to the casino and have a flutter!
