The very popular town of Chamonix offers fantastic mountain holidays in both summer and winter. The famous landmark of Mont Blanc dominates the Chamonix landscape providing great views and stunning scenery.
In the winter Chamonix attracts a wide range of visitors from the serious skiers and snowboarders seeking a challenge, to non skiers who can take advantage of the many activities that Chamonix has to offer such as sleigh riding, snowshoeing and ice climbing, to name a few.
Chamonix offers a year round haven for mountain enthusiasts and the summer is just as lively as the winter. Hikers, Mountain Bikers and Climbers are just a few of the people who come to Chamonix to explore what the resort has to offer.
For mountain bikers, there is a wide variety of slopes accessible from the extensive lift system. At the bottom of the valley you can access the more gentle trails perfect for beginners and families. For the more technical rider, head up to Le Tour for some tricky single track.
For the less energetic there are several natural lakes in the Chamonix area, suitable for sunbathing and swimming. Or why not visit the nearby towns of Annecy for some shopping, or head to Evian on Lake Geneva to relax in the thermal springs.
A not-to-be-missed day out is a trip in the famous cable car to the high altitude Aguille du Midi (3842m). If you are an early riser catch the 7am trip up to see day break over the summits...paradise!
Once the sun has set, Chamonix centre comes to life. So if you are looking for traditional restaurants, chic cafes or lively bars and clubs, Chamonix has it all. The restaurants offering everything from traditional Haute Savoie cuisine such as Raclette or Tartiflette to further afield tastes such as Indian, Chinese, Italian and Mexican. And more importantly you will be able to find a restaurant to suit every budget.
There are a wide range of bars in Chamonix and several night clubs which are open until the early hours. And if you are feeling lucky why not place a few bets in the Casino with betting tables upstairs and gambling machines downstairs. You can even spend your winnings in Le Cafe Royal, located inside.
Chamonix is easy to reach by plane and train. The nearest airport is Geneva, which is just over an hours drive away. Alternatively the train from Paris takes approximately 5 and a half hours on the TGV.
