The French ski resort of Avoriaz was built in the 1960?s on the edge of a cliff. Avoriaz is the gateway to the massive Portes du Soleil region and is open in both summer and winter.

In the winter the French ski resort of Avoriaz attracts a variety of visitors and it really does have something to offer all standards of skier. It has long been considered Europe?s snowboarding capital with 9 parks in the region to cater for all levels. Avoriaz stands at 1800m and is well known for it?s great snow conditions. For the non-skier Avoriaz offers bowling, dog-sledging, snow-shoeing, paragliding, scenic helicopter rides and much more.

During the months of July and August Avoriaz opens for the summer. With stunning views and access to the many hiking and mountain biking trails it is a great place to get away from it all in the summer.

Avoriaz boasts a range of activities to suit all ages and tastes. If you are a mountain biker there are many cross country and down hill trails to be tried, including the famous World Cup downhill course. Alternatively you could get a local map and explore the stunning walking paths in the area ? don?t forget your camera! There are also many guided activities such as climbing, donkey trekking, paragliding and white water rafting. Avoriaz also has a 9 hole golf course set in spectacular scenery. For the slightly less active head to the heated pool or natural lakes to relax!

If you feel like exploring further a field the nearby towns of Annecy, Yvoire, Lake Geneva and Evian, to name a few, are great places to visit for a day out.

After dark Avoriaz has plenty of action. The area is totally pedestrianised and very compact so it?s a great place to wander around the local shops and stop in the many bars and restaurants in the resort. There are several bars with live music or DJ?s which are open until the early hours and Avoriaz also has a couple of nightclubs. There are over 30 restaurants to choose from with a mix of cuisine and prices to suit everyone?s taste and budget. If you are looking for a break from eating and drinking there is also a cinema with a weekly film in English, bowling, table football and video games at Studio 9.

The nearest airport to Avoriaz is Geneva, about an hour and a half drive away. From here you can hire a car or catch a bus. There are also several transfer companies you can book with beforehand, which can work out a cheaper option if you are travelling in a large group. If you are driving to Avoriaz remember that it is a car free zone and you must park in the car park on the edge of the resort.
